This is what I'd tell a friend I hadn't seen in a year.

Work

I was recently made Manager, Engineering at Prompt. I'm now managing multiple AI and Product Engineering teams.

I've been working alongside the AI teams on product features, and I get to straddle the line between AI engineering and Product engineering.

I gave up remote work; I moved to New Jersey to work at Prompt's office daily. I love it there.

Side projects

In December I said I'd stop starting things and finish the five I had going. It's August, so I still have five months, but I should admit that I mostly went and started other things instead. Gingerbread's the only one that's still moving forward, although at a glacial pace.

• OBOOS, an operating system I'm writing in Rust from scratch.
• Laravel Integrations, which stops me having to write API integration code repeatedly for different projects.
• Sims 2 Career Mod Builder, which I still have to write about.
• Ansible orchestration for multiple dedicated Hetzner servers, with VMs in those servers serving as EC2 replacements.
• Gingerbread, a freelance business management tool.

Personal

We moved in April. Petra and I drove across the country, Idaho to New Jersey, which was a fun roadtrip. I got to see for myself how empty Wyoming really is.

We're in West New York now, looking across the water at Manhattan. I see the Empire State Building every morning. It has not stopped feeling surreal.

Beyond that it's been mostly work. I feel so engaged in my day-to-day work that that's solidly been taking up all my focus. I want to write more, and I have a pile of half-finished dev logs that proves I've been meaning to. I'll get there.
